Staying Fit or Staying Trendy?

A gym membership and an organized meal plan has never been so popular as it is today. The fitness and health lifestyle has never been embraced as much as it is today either. What is so attractive about this lifestyle?

Is it the results that appear in our physical appearance leading to the ultimate confidence or maybe it’s the amount of likes that are received on an Instagram gym selfie that you were hesitant to post because you weren’t completely satisfied with your results?

But to many of these fitness freaks, the true reason they might embrace the health lifestyle may only be the satisfaction of keeping up with the trend.

As a young adult, what others are doing matters deeply no matter how much someone may deny it. Following a trend isn’t necessarily a bad thing but how common is it for people to avoid the title of being a trend follower.

When all your friends are suddenly working out and cutting carbs, it’s easy to fall in the same lifestyle. There’s nothing wrong with choosing a healthier lifestyle but how many of us actually enjoy going to the gym everyday while avoiding all the foods we love.

Granted that there are some that truly enjoy hurting their bodies and eating boring food, but if only a few enjoy the agony that must lead to the rest dreading the whole situation. If it leads to exhaustion at the gym and a growling stomach why insist on living such a lifestyle?

Is all this work devoted to a better looking body worth the time if so many teens and young adults are genetically gifted with great looking bodies without even stepping foot in the parking lot of a gym.

It’s understandable to those who are noticeably heavy or unhealthy to attempt to make a change, but what about those who already have a decent appearance and have never had the slightest interest of physical fitness or changing their horrible diet that doesn’t seem to affect their physical appearance?

A typical fitness trend follower is usually someone who has no history of being physically active while having no motive to attempt to change their diet, yet suddenly they are in the gym six days a week,  only eating organic foods, avoiding gluten without the ability to explain what gluten is when asked.

They’re wearing trendy athletic apparel that you would’ve never found in their wardrobe prior to their acceptance into the fitness cult. It wouldn’t be a surprise to also go on their social media accounts and find multiple posts of some type of cliche gym motivation to go along with some selfies, flexing at the gym with their gym partner that is also a victim of the fitness trend.

There is also a good chance that this same person tries to encourage each and every one of his friends to go to the gym with them while telling them what they should and shouldn’t eat with no real nutritional knowledge.

It’s not a trend that leads to trouble or looking ridiculous, it’s actually a trend that has a positive outcome depending on how much one is willing to commit. It can result in a healthier lifestyle and attractive body, but there is no denying that the whole fitness craze is a trend. It is said that trends come and go, so let’s see how long this one lasts.
