Rio Hondo College will officially be apart of the L.A County Fair’s “College Days” series this year and will mark Sept. 25 as “Rio Hondo College Day”.

The Outreach and Educational Partnerships office partnered with the fair to be able to provide current enrolled student’s free admission to the fair “Rio Hondo College Day”.

Students should have received an email along with an attachment of their printable ticket at their Rio Mail account.

The ticket is redeemable for one free admission and students must present their active student ID card.

Free admission to the fair will also apply to both faculty and staff allowing for Rio to unite with one another at the fair and enjoy themselves.

Separate carnival tickets or an all-day wristband, however will be required if one wishes to ride the carnival attractions at the fair.

This year marks 92 years that the fair has been held at the Pomona Fairplex off the 10 freeway and has quite an illusive history.

In 1992, the first Los Angeles County Fair was held over a span of five days at a cost of $63,000.

In the 1940’s the fair was reorganized after World War II and the bombing of Pearl Harbor, making several of renovations and expansions including purchasing 72 acres for parking lots, introducing an official fair mascot, and in the 1960’s a monorail was built for aerial viewing of the grounds similar to Disneyland’s design.

The fair was also visited in 1966 by former California Governor Pat Brown and Republication gubernatorial candidate (later Governor of California and President of the U.S.) Ronald Reagan.

Today the festival is held for a whole month and boasts an array of food options including unique fried foods, several shopping vendors, carnival attractions, games, entertainment, and concerts.

Attendees may choose to purchase carnival tickets ranging from $20 to $100, or an all-day unlimited ride wristband for $50.

For those who would rather attend on a different date, admission to the fair is $12 on weekdays and $20 on weekends for adults.

Children 6-12 are $8 on weekdays, $12 on weekends, and children under 5 are free.

The last day of the fair will be Sept. 27 and will close at 10 pm.

Rio Hondo College Day at the fair will be open to students, faculty, and staff from noon to midnight.

Be sure to take advantage of this offer for free admission to save money for rides, attractions, and food.
