New workshop series available for freshmen

During the workshop, students will learn more about the process of successful transfer and the required GPA as well as course units in order to be eligible to enroll in either a public or private university.

The First-Year student success center hosted a workshop on Sept. 30 at 1 p.m. in room 201 of the Student Union.

For the new students attending Rio Hondo College, the first year workshop is a good chance for every freshmen to learn about the campus and know what to expect during and after attending school.

This workshop series takes place regularly from early September to mid October at the Student Union Building.

A variety of workshops are offered, including Transfer 101, Get It Together, Ballin’on a Budget and Rio Hondo 101.

Students can pick and choose from these options and attend the workshops that they are interested in.

In addition, power point lectures and surveys are offered during the workshop in order for attendees to access the information and figure out what types of problems they have and how to solve them with effective methods.

For those who expect to move on to a 4-year university after graduating, Transfer 101 is a workshop that they should attend.

Furthermore, for the students who have difficulties managing their time and suffer from procrastination, Get it Together! workshop is able to help anyone who feels challenged when getting things finished on time.

The Student Success Coaches of the lecture will offer information and teach about different study strategies and self-care techniques such as how to plan ahead of time, how to set priorities between important and unimportant things, and how to stay mentally and physically healthy in order to keep on the tasks.

Ballin’ on a Budget is a workshop to help students who have financial problems when it comes to renting books, purchasing food and searching for aid.

Students who have little knowledge of receiving financial help may be present during the lectures to be informed on related information.

Additionally, if any new students ever felt lost when it comes to the campus life at RHC, or would simply like to be informed about everything the campus has to offer, the workshop Rio Hondo 101 provides every attendee the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of Rio Hondo.

The workshops have multiple dates and are definitely helpful when it comes to students familiarize themselves with Rio Hondo and find the available resources provided in college.

The available dates for Ballin’ on a budget are October 13 at 6 a.m., October 14 at 9 a.m. and October 15 at 1 p.m.
