Super Bowl Halftime show…. boring

In Atlanta, Super Bowl 53 took place with the New England Patriots taking on the Los Angeles Rams. Although the game wasn’t the story the Halftime show performers and/or potential performers stole the show. The Halftime show performers have been under much controversy since the NFL created a policy to prohibit the players from kneeling for the national anthem.

When Colin Kaepernick began his protest of the killings of unarmed black men by cops. Players around the league began following suit.

The Super Bowl Halftime spot is the most coveted spot in the Super Bowl. The NFL  has been vocal on how they really wanted Rhianna to be the main performer for the spot. She declined the offer because she stands with Kaepernick. There have been a number of artists that have also declined the spot as well. Ultimately, Maroon 5 accepted, they wanted artists of color to perform with them but collected a list of no’s.

A Disappointing Show

The Halftime show was one of the worst in recent years with Travis Scott and Big Boi performing alongside Maroon 5. We all know who Big Boi is, but he only has had one major hit. Twitter blew up with tweets about the Halftime show and how bad it was, and frankly, I agree. Having Big Boi perform shows how hard it is to find an artist to perform. After having; Bruno Mars, Beyoncé, Coldplay, Red Hot Chili peppers, Madonna, Katy Perry and her left shark in past years.

Artists who declined to perform and who are using their platform for good and spreading awareness of social issues in our country I can stand behind. Some fans can’t support this form of protest since it can be interpreted as disrespectful towards veterans and the country.

At this point, those who oppose this protest know what it stands for, and take offense unnecessarily.
