Former El Paisano staff member covers Super Bowl 50

A Former editor for El Paisano and student of Rio Hondo College, Abree Dominguez, was just one of the many people who gathered in the Bay area to witness the spectacle that is known as Super Bowl week.

Dominguez had been there on behalf of the Super Bowl Committee, NFL Host Committee, and a few other companies who held events all around the bay area.

Her job there was in media relations, so she was required to deal directly with the media on behalf of any player, coach, management, or anyone else related to the teams who might have concerns about their privacy or if they simply wanted to get something out to the media.

Since Dominguez is a current student at San Francisco University, she was challenged with the task of having to balance her school schedule with this new opportunity.

I always knew that one day my dreams would come true but being 20 years old and knowing exactly what I want to do with my life has really made me appreciate all of my wonderful opportunities.

— Abree Dominguez

Having to rely on Uber and Lyft to get around the city, and going from San Francisco to San Jose then back to San Francisco to juggle coverage and classwork all in the same day shows the kind of commitment she has devoted to her area of studies.

Her love and passion for the game of football, as well as journalism, has brought her to this point. Growing up a 49ers fan made meeting team legends like Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, and Ronnie Lott all the more memorable.

While attending an event hosted by Fox Sports Senior Reporter Jay Glazer called Suits and Sneakers, Dominguez was able to get the chance to witness current and former players interact with and express their gratitude towards veterans and active military members.

Dominguez described her experience as being “an honor” and she admitted to being a bit “starstruck” at the same time.

Her crazy and hectic week would come to an end that Sunday as she attended the big game at Levi’s stadium.

Dominguez found herself bumping into one of the greatest running backs of all-time, Marcus Allen, who engaged her in conversation.

The experience will stay with her forever and the feeling of accomplishment was then realized as she explains that “I always knew that one day my dreams would come true but being 20 years old and knowing exactly what I want to do with my life has really made me appreciate all of my wonderful opportunities.”

From having tears of joy backstage at the NFL Honors Awards to tears of joy in the entry-way of Super Bowl 50 was just part of the roller coaster ride that was Super Bowl week and a historic one at that.
