“Justice for J6” Rally Mostly Uneventful
The right-wing “Justice for J6” event scheduled for Sept 18 ended without major incident. A large law enforcement presence met the smaller than expected crowd. Police arrested two armed individuals. Most of the crowd consisted of media.
Ahead of the event, the fences and a barricade of dump trucks surrounded the Capitol. Officers guarded closed federal buildings. Congress was not present in D.C. at the time. National guard personnel were also on sand-by.
The rally supported the over 600 federally charged individuals who took part in the insurrection on Jan 6. Most of the same extremist groups present at the insurrection discouraged attendance at the event last minute. These groups, such as Qanon, as welll as Donald Trump himself, began spreading conspiracy theory’s regarding the event. They believed it was a “false flag” event, aimed at provoking the attendees to commit violence.
One of the attendees interviewed by CNN journalist claimed the insurrection was non-violent and they had a right to be in the Capitol. He was shown footage of a police officer being pinned between a doorway and bleeding. Even then, he said the cop was being lightly shoved and the worst offense of the insurrection was trespassing .
