Employee injured in traffic mishap

Employee Jamie Barnes is taken to hospital via ambulance after accident on College Drive.
An employee of the Facilities Services Department, driving a service cart, was involved in an accident on College Drive on Oct. 31.
According to witnesses, the maintenance cart was seen tipping over around 1 p.m. and employee, Jamie Barnes, was lying on the ground bleeding from his hand and arms. In addition, Barnes had stated that he also had pain in his left leg.
El Paisano staff members Frankie Mendoza and Jenine Esqueda witnessed the incident and immediately rushed over to help. Mendoza had called for help on Barnes’s radio and had remained with Barnes while Esqueda had left to obtain water to rinse his hands off.
“I saw him on the ground with blood dripping down and holding his leg. I was worried that he broke it and remembered looking to make sure he had no head injuries,” Jenine Esqueda.
Mendoza stated that, according to Barnes, he said he was headed downhill and when he tried to stop, the brakes failed.
There has been no word yet from officials on what had caused the incident to occur.
