Baseball: Carrillo’s 5.2 Innings Help Sweep Cerritos
Rio Hondo was back in action this week taking on Cerritos college in a South Coast Conference match up.
Rio Hondo was looking to bounce back after two rough losses to Long Beach.
Rio Hondo came into the game 2-2 in conference play and were looking to change that.
Rio Hondo had freshman pitcher Andrew Martinez on the mound who was looking for another strong start.
Rio Hondo would score first in the second inning, scoring two runs on a double from Diego Perez and scoring Sal Tabullo, then Diego would score on a wild pitch later that inning.
A scary moment would come in the fifth inning when Rio Hondo’s starting pitching took a hard line drive off his calf.
Martinez would finish the inning but gave up two.
Most of Rio Hondo’s baserunners came from walks.
Cerritos pitcher Leonard Salas had trouble finding the strike zone, but when he did Rio Hondo’s hitters took advantage of it.
Rio Hondo would end up scoring nine runs to secure the win and improve their conference record.
The final score would be 9-6 in favor of Rio Hondo.
The Roadrunners would now look to take the series against Cerritos on Saturday.

Freshman pitcher Abraham Carrillo would be on the mound for the Roadrunners.
Rio Hondo would strike first in the first inning scoring six runs.
Cerritos pitcher Joshua Jorgensen was not able to find the strike zone in the first inning, but when he did find the strike zone Rio Hondo’s hitters were all over it.
Everyone but three hitters in the lineup scored in the first inning.
That would be all the scoring for Rio Hondo until the seventh inning when they scored another six runs.
Starting off with Jimmy Portillo, hitting a double to start off the inning.
Then, George Centeno would hit a double to score him.
Cerritos would keep going to their bullpen, but it wouldn’t be enough to hold off the Rio Hondo bats.
Rio Hondo would get the much needed win 12-2 to improve to 4-4 in conference.
Rio Hondo will take on Mt. Sac next Tuesday at 2:30 pm at Mt. Sac.
