Dodgers Off-Season Transactions

Dodgers Off-Season

With pitchers and catchers already reporting at Spring Training, that could only mean one thing – baseball season is on the horizon. After last year’s heart breaking loss in the World Series for the second year in a row, the Dodgers are now preparing to make it back to the World Series at Camelback Ranch in Scottsdale, Arizona. Spring Training is held there every year, but just like the old saying goes the third times the charm. It is safe to say that the Dodgers stayed busy this off-season, acquiring two new bats in the lineup.

Dodgers Transactions

Russel Martin.

A familiar face for the Dodgers, Martin played for the Blue Crew from 2006- 2010 before signing with the Yankees. The Dodgers also acquired AJ Pollock to solidify their outfield. The biggest surprise this off-season was the signing of Joe Kelly. Kelly played for the Red Sox last season when they won the World Series. Kelly is a big arm coming from the bullpen and the Dodgers can expect a lot out of him. The Dodgers needed someone like him due to the lack of production in the Dodgers’ bullpen last year.

The signing of Pollock means that the Dodgers will more than likely not get Bryce Harper. The Dodgers traded Yasiel Puig, Matt Kemp, Alex Wood, as well as Kyler Farmer to the Cincinnati Reds. The reason for the trading those players was to clear the payroll. Without clearing the payroll, they wouldn’t have been able to pay AJ Pollock $55 million over four years.

Returning Key Players

The Dodgers are looking to have a big season with Corey Seager coming back after being out for almost all of last year. Seager had Tommy John surgery, a surgery that you get when tear your UCL tendon in your elbow.

The Dodgers can expect a big season out of him offensively and defensively because Manny Machado is a free agent who will not re-sign with the Dodgers. The Dodgers pitching rotation stayed the same except the trade of Wood because now the Dodgers will need to fill his spot in the rotation. That could be filled by Julio Urias who is coming off of labrum surgery and the Dodgers can expect a big season out of him.
