Trump Visits Mexico
Donald Trump feels very much like a desperate socialite. At the invitation of the now historically unpopular president of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto, Trump has acquired yet another important photo op for his campaign of hatred.
The same campaign that has vilified the Mexican immigrant and spat in the face of millions of people not just in the United States but in Mexico too. Of course we have the not-too-bright Nieto to thank for that, with an ever sinking approval rating, what does he have to lose?
More interesting would be to pose the question, what did Mexico have to gain from this unholy reunion? One would think that the least they could gain from Trump, would be an apology, yet none was given.
The president, during his press conference stated that Donald Trump’s insults were simply misunderstandings. Flashbacks of Blair/Bush come to mind. You might also think, well maybe the president could ask him about his plans to build a 30 foot wall on the Mexican/American border? The wall was not discussed. Later at an Arizona rally, Trump said, “the wall would be discussed at a later date,” Of course, hindsight is 20/20 and maybe Nieto couldn’t have foreseen the consequences of his stupid actions inviting a figure that most of Mexico would consider a persona non grata but, and maybe I’m naive in thinking, a president should know what the people of his country think and what’s in their best interest. I don’t know, maybe make it a requirement for presidency.
I think journalist Jorge Ramos put it best when he spoke of Trump and Peña Nieto’s meeting “Today’s meeting is between two of the most despised people by Mexicans on both sides of the border.”
