Why you should ‘Feel the Bern’
With the presidential elections coming closer everyday, we all must decide who we want to be the leader of our country. As you can tell be the title, I believe that we should support presidential candidate Bernie Sanders.
There are three main points I would like to address his stances on; health care, education, and the Middle East. The elephant in the room we need to address is how people have branded him a socialist. He declares himself a democratic socialist, where he believes in a combination of socialistic economic system and democratic political system.
I agree with Bernie, when he stated that health care should be recognized as a basic human right, and not a privilege. Although he supported the Affordable Care Act (Obama Care), he believes that it did not go far enough.
He would like to establish universal health care where the federal and state governments would provide healthcare to all americans. To do this, it would take ten years and 13.8 trillion, which would be paid for by employers and individuals by a new progressive income tax, raising tax rates for those making more than $250,000.
On education, Sanders promises to make pre school free for all four year olds and free tuition for public colleges. He wants to fund this plan by increasing tax on the wealthy and on Wall Street transactions. He also wants to increase state governments, which would cut state college tuitions by 55 percent.
Lastly, he would recall all of our troops from Afghanistan and Iraq. He does not think that we should be leading the fight against terrorism, but work on a diplomatic solution instead of solving everything by throwing more American soldiers at the problem.
He states that, as a nation, we should focus less on the external conflicts of the world, and look more inward on empowering our middle class.
So whether or not you are going to vote for Bernie Sanders, please address the issues, and make your decision by the impact it will have on your loved ones, community and country.
