Rio Hondo College’s MESA/TRiO SSS STEM PROGRAM was honored Oct. 1, in Washington D.C. as one of America’s top programs that increase academic opportunities and increase achievement for Latino students the MESA (Math Engineering Science Achievement) Program.

The program was selected from among 165 competitors from 22 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.

This is the only national initiative to identify, recognize, and catalogue programs that improve Latino college success – something that RHC has proudly implemented successful involvement.

“Rio Hondo College is responding to a national need for professionals in [science, technology, engineering and math] with these programs,” college President Teresa Dreyfuss said. “Since its inception, [the Math Engineering Science Achievement Program] has been an outstanding program that has enriched and engaged our students. Not only are students succeeding in math, schience, engineering courses, but they are also being prepared for well-paid, highly-skilled and rewarding careers.”

This award event coincided with the release of the 2014 edition of “What Works for Latino Student Success in Higher Education.”

RHC was honored as one of the 22 programs after evidence of success.

The MESA/Trio SSS STEM programs will continue to strive successfully and represent RHC highly.
