Black Panther Takes Home 3 Oscars
As Black Panther was already nominated for 7 Oscars there was no doubt it would take home some of those and it did! With the first coming in early in the show for Best Costume Design. Ruth Carter Accepted the award and gave a thank you to Spike Lee who was responsible for giving her a start in the industry with 1998’s School Daze. She would then go on to say
“Marvel may have created the first black superhero, but through costume design, we turned him into an African king.” she continued. “Thank you to the Academy, thank you for honoring African royalty and the empowered way women can look and lead on-screen, this has been a long time coming.”
Best Production Design went to Black Panther as well as Best Original Score. Accepting the award was composer Ludwig Göransson who said “Thank you, Ryan Coogler. Ryan, working with you has been an incredible honor. I remember 12 years ago we were in our dorm at USC, writing the score to your first short film.”
Black Panther is now Marvel Studios first Oscar Winning movie with the only other being a nomination for 2012 “Avengers”. With all the movies Marvel has lined up this year we should be seeing more Oscar titles under their belt soon.
