Critical Review: Supernatural Season 14
If you aren’t familiar with CW’s Supernatural, then you are in for a real Halloween treat. Eric Kripke’s Supernatural first aired September 2005, and, 13 years and 13 seasons later it is still going strong.
If you’re a huge action-drama-occult loving viewer who enjoys a dash of humor with a sense of knowledge for the “supernatural” then this show is PERFECT FOR YOU. Don’t believe the hype? Peep for yourself the thousands of fathom-based websites on the show itself, and that doesn’t even include the main characters!
From hunting demons, witches, wraiths, ghouls, vampires, zombies, to the four horsemen. Including angels and archangels, to Lucifer himself. Dean and Sam Winchester along with their guardian-angel and greatest alley, Castiel have been through it all. Let us not forget how many times these guys have died throughout the show (at least more than twice).
Now it’s time for a recap: (SPOILER ALERT)
It’s no surprise that after season 13’s finale episode, Let The Good Times Roll, that Dean is once again made the protagonist of the show. After a final face-off with Lucifer, Dean is gifted strength from the archangel, Michael. A foe of the Winchesters in season 5.
Dean declined the offer to become one with Michael and stop Lucifer. Moving forward, desperate to finally end Lucifer’s reign and save his brother. And new-found alley, Jack (the son of the Lucifer). Dean agrees to let Michael use his vessel (body) in an attempt to defeat the prince of darkness.
Plot twist:
Dean’s body is taken over by Michael, and now Sam, Castiel, and mother Mary Winchester along with an old family-friend, Bobby Singer. They are all striving to build an opposing force to stop Michael and bring Dean back from his grasp. So, it’s mom and little brother to the rescue this season and it seems like we’ll seeing more of Sam and Mary’s bond (aww).
Just like any other Supernatural season premiere.
Season 14 ep. 1: Stranger in a Strange Land did not disappoint. The plot thickens as Michael (who is Dean) has been searching among various individuals asking them, “The same question I’ve spent weeks traveling around this world asking all sorts of people, Holy men, leaders, killers…what do you want exactly?”
However, in the midst of their search, Castiel is captured and held hostage by a demon named Kip. Kip wants the throne of Hell for himself as he tries to bargain with Sam; it’s a no-go and Kip is ultimately killed off and the demons he assembled all fled.
After Mary and Sam celebrate with their victory beers and cheers (classic ending to every if not all episodes), Michael appears again this time speaking with another man who happens to be a vampire.
“Now you…you know exactly what you want…you don’t pretend to want to help people or save the world…your want is pure and simple and clean,” Michael goes onto say, “And that’s why you are worth saving and that’s we are going to work so well together…because you-you just want to eat.”
The scene ends with the mysterious character’s vampire teeth growing out as he nods in agreement. This is the final season of Supernatural so we are definitely in for a hell of ride (no pun intended). Supernatural airs 8pm pacific time on the CW’s channel 5.
