The ‘Green Inferno’ is a mediocre film plagued by financial issues
*WARNING. CONTAINS SPOILERS*
The Green Inferno is an adventure/horror movie directed and written by Eli Roth and Guillermo Amoedo. The film stars Lorenza Izzo, Ariel Levy, Aaron Burns, Daryl Sabara, and Kirby Bliss Blanton. It’s original release date was supposed to be on Sept. 5, but was pushed over to Sept. 25 due to financial issues.
The movie is about a group of college-student-activists who fly over to the rain forest, and chain themselves to the trees to stop a construction team from destroying what’s left of it. They succeed in their mission, and begin their trip back home, when the plane’s engine messes up during flight, and the students are left free falling to the ground, while the plane is being destroyed from the pressure and speed the plane is falling at. With only a handful of them left, they are hunted down and captured by a tribe best known for being cannibals. One by one they witness their friends getting eaten alive, beaten, drugged, cooked, and a few other torturous actions.
The movie does have a plot-twist and leaves you wondering what will happen next at the end in the most cliche way.
For viewers who cannot handle watching people literally being eaten alive, this is not the right movie for you. The tribe is shown breaking bones, biting and ripping skin off of a man running for his life, and rape; heads will be rolling when watching Green Inferno.
Green Inferno is a low budget film with fresh actors in all of its roles. It’s online ratings are not high at all. Imdb.com gave Green Inferno 5.8 out of 10 while the critics at Rottentomatoes.com gave it a 37% out of 100% while the audience reviews were quite the same at 40% out of 100%.
Derrick Picasso, 17, says, “The film was a waste of time. The actors sucked, and the movie was cheesy. One of the girls was stupid. The tone in her voice kept dragging the whole time. She was just annoying period. I don’t think I recognized a single actor from the whole movie.” When asked what he would rate the film out of 1-10, ten being an Oscar award winning movie, he said, “What the heck? That movie was like a two or three the most.”
It was just another remake of the 1980’s movie, The Cannibal Holocaust. Save your money and buy a ticket to something else worth watching.
