The Killers rocked the stage on ‘Kimmel’

The Las Vegas, Nevada based band; The Killers, formed back in 2001. Between 2004 and 2008, the band put out three albums that all reached gold and platinum sales worldwide.

After a four year hiatus, The Killers re-grouped to record a fourth record also selling over one million copies around the world. In debut of their greatest hits album Direct Hits (2013), The Killers played a two-night show at the Jimmy Kimmel Live! show on Nov. 12, and Nov. 13.

Staff members from El Paisano attended the first night of this two-part event.

The Killers kicked off night one with their brand new song, found on Direct Hits, “Shot at the Night”. The band then transitioned into their hit single, “All These Things That I’ve Done” (also found on Hot Fuss).

Frontman Brandon Flowers pumped up the already enthusiastic crowd in elongating the famous break down, “I got soul but I’m not a soldier”, and pointing the microphone to the fans to encourage  them to sing along. Flowers then explained to the crowd that the band was going to play ‘something a little different’, leading into an acoustic and more piano based variation of “Read My Mind” also on Sam’s Town.

The band followed up with “Runaways” off their most recent record Battle Born (2012) shortly after “When You Were Young”. The fans exploded with excitement and cheers as they heard the riff for that night’s closing song, “Mr. Brightside”.  The sprightly lead singer jumped and ran around the stage throughout the entire show. However, he made the crowd go crazy during the last song when he threw his fist in the air just like the iconic character John Bender from The Breakfast Club (1985).

Though the band played “Mr. Brightside” from the album Hot Fuss (2004) and “When You Were Young” from Sam’s Town (2006) on both nights, each set list varied a little bit. Night two included their famous tracks “Human” and “Spaceman” both from the Day & Age (2008) record, Hot Fuss’ “Under the Gun” and “Bones” from Sam’s Town. Shortly after each show ended, select members of the band made some fans’ dreams come true in participating in a small meet and greet to sign autographs and take pictures.

Direct Hits is a compilation album of The Killers’ top hits from all four of their previous records. For the exception of “Under the Gun” and “Bones”, all of these tracks can be found on Direct Hits along with two of the band’s newest singles, “Shot at the Night” and “Just Another Girl”.
