Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow” is No. 1 Song In Country
First female to win NO.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 since Lauren Hill
Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do” has been dethroned by Cardi B’s banger “Bodak Yellow” on Billboard’s Hot 100 song list.
The song has been steadily rising up the charts since its debut this past June. It is the first rap solo single by a woman to hit number one since Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop (That Thing)” in 1998 – a triumph Nicki Minaj did not even achieve.
The single also went platinum and was the most streamed single last week with 40 million plays.
Cardi B took to her Instagram to celebrate the accomplishment. She posted a video displaying her team, the press, and her family surrounding her in “Bardi Gang” labeled shirts, cameras flashing and people congratulating her.
“What a day! I feel like its my graduation, birthday, and prom at the same time!” Her caption read.
What is impressive is the fact that Cardi B’s full album has yet to be released. She expressed how nervous she was to top this hit in her recent Breakfast Club interview, but fans and peers alike had nothing but positivity for her, including platinum rapper J.Cole.
J.Cole tweeted, “Also Cardi B I seen your breakfast club interview. Loved it. Don’t put all that pressure on your album. You already won. Just drop it and repeat. ”
“Is this real?” Cardi B exclaimed in response of Cole’s support, “My heart is smiling. Well who am I not to take J.Cole advice…”
When she performed at the Made in America Festival earlier this month, Cardi B announced that her new album was going to be released in October, but she might push it back.
Fans are awaiting this release and hope for it to top the charts as her single has.
