Roadrunners Baseball Even Series Against East LA in a Wild Finish 4-3
The Dirty Birds beat the East LA Huskies 4-3 on Thursday in a spectacular fashion in “The Jungle.”
The Roadrunners are back in the win column after losing game one against ELAC on Tuesday.
Starting pitcher, David Medrano started the game off strong by pitching five shutout innings. Costly errors by the Roadrunners allowed ELAC to tie the game up at three a piece.
The Roadrunners’ bats also started off with a bang after Josep Angulo hit a two-run double in the first and Nolan Anguiano drove in a run with a double in the second.
Pitching was the storyline for most of the game due to David Morales pitching four shutout innings for ELAC and Medrano only allowing two hits through five innings.
The Huskies soon figured out Medrano and exploded in the sixth tying the game 3-3.
Rio Hondo answered back by scoring on a passed ball to make it a 4-3 ballgame in the seventh inning. Matt Herrera came in to pitch in the eighth and ninth innings to close it out for the Roadrunners.
East LA was down one run in the bottom of the ninth and Alex Mendez stepped up to the plate with two outs. Mendez shot one to right field and allowed the runner on first to have a chance to score.
The runner on first was waved home and was gunned down at home plate to end the game.
What’s next for the Roadrunners?
Rio Hondo improves to 10-4 on the season and 1-1 in conference play. The Roadrunners started off hot to begin the season with a 7-1 record but since then, they have only won 3 of their last 6 games.
Rio Hondo will travel back to ELAC to finish a three game set against the Huskies to continue conference play.
