Before we go any further, congratulations are in store for some of our players. Sophomores Janine Coria and Aliah Trujillo were named All-South Coast Conference First Team. This is Coria’s second time being named All-SCC First Team. Meanwhile, fellow sophomores Danielle Betancourt and Nicole Vasquez were named All-SCC Second Team, with Betancourt earning her second All-SCC spot. Coach Teddi Esko was also named Coach of the Year. Not too shabby, ladies.
Rio Hondo comes into the matchup sporting a 15-11 record overall, with a 9-8 record against South Coast Conference rivals. They’ll be facing off against a familiar face, as they previously defeated San Diego City College 3-1 during the regular season.
With a win, Rio Hondo would take on No. 2 seed Grossmont College, who sports an impressive 24-3 overall record. That matchup would take place November 26, with the State Championships slated from December 6-8.
