Men’s Basketball: Roadrunners Continue To Battle for A Win
Sophomore power forward Uziel Felix paced Rio Hondo College with 18 points in an 80-65 loss to South Coast Conference-North rival Pasadena City College in Pasadena Friday, Feb. 9.
This was a nice bounce-back game for Felix, who was held to just 8 points against Mt. San Antonio College. No. 4 also added 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals to go along with his team leading 18 points.
Less than a minute into the game, Felix got the Roadrunners on the board first with a 3 point jump shot.  From there, the Roadrunners held a 6-2 lead and did a nice job defensively of bottling up the Lancers’ offense.
Then, Pasadena scored 6 unanswered points to take an 8-6 lead, thanks to the efforts of Giovanni Jackson, Chris Odionu, and Chris Blount. From then on, the Roadrunners played a never-ending game of catch-up, never again regaining the lead.
Rio Hondo outscored Pasadena 31-30 in the second half which makes this loss sting even more. As for the first half –  50-34, Pasadena. Ouch. That 16 point first half deficit really hurt them, along with their -4 point turnover differential (Rio had 13 steals to Pasadena’s 17).
This loss marked the Roadrunners’ 13th straight, bringing their season record down to 3-21.  Next on the agenda for Rio Hondo is a matchup with the 17-6 LA Trade-Tech Beavers, who are on a losing streak of their own – a 2 game losing streak,  to be exact.
The Roadrunners will host the Tech Beavers Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 5 p.m. at Rio’s basketball gym.
