Premier League: Salah’s Goal Wins It For Liverpool
Liverpool Football Club remained unbeaten in the Premier League thanks to Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah who scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium.
The Egyptian forward scored his fourth goal this season with help from winger Xherdan Shaqiri. However, Huddersfield tried to remain positive as they twice came close to equalizing before half time.
Huddersfield captain Jonathan Hogg kicked a long-range drive against the crossbar before midfielder Alex Pritchard was marginally offside when lifting a finish past Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
Also, a penalty appeal for handball against Liverpool midfielder James Milner was turned down by referee Michael Oliver.
After half time, Huddersfield were a stronger side, every time the Reds made a mistake, the home side tried to attack back trying to score their first goal at home.
Huddersfield striker Laurent Depoitre observed a header well held by goalkeeper Alisson with his squad’s first shot on target, while Salah tried to notch his second of the day but his shot was off target.
In the 70th minute, the newest Liverpool midfielder Fabinho made his debut for the Reds after signing from French club AS Monaco over the summer transfer window.
With 10 minutes to go, Depoitre shot over the goal from the inside the area after a cross spilled through.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was angry throughout the game but happy to see his team perform well, while Huddersfield manager David Wagner remains worried over his team’s inability to win a game in the season’s first nine matches.
“It is the first period in my life that we can win average matches,” Klopp said, “I prefer the spectacular way, but I would take that today completely.”
Despite the fact Liverpool did not play like they did most of last season, they have a long way to go to fight for the Premier League title with Manchester City. While the small club Huddersfield need to start winning games if they are to avoid relegation and remain in the Premier League next season.
The next game for Liverpool is against Red Star Belgrade in the Champions’ League group stage Wednesday, Oct. 24, while Huddersfield take on Watford next Saturday.
