Men’s Soccer Defeats Orange Coast College
Rio Hondo College men’s soccer team hosted Orange Coast College on Sep. 7 for a non-conference game, winning 2-0 against their opponents.
The game started off slowly, as both teams were trying to find their rhythm with their passing and control of the ball. The first half ended tied at 0-0 with neither team able to get on the scoreboard due to great defensive play for both sides.
In the second half, the Roadrunners came out fighting harder than their OCC opponents and that was proven after Angel Flores carried the ball all the way up the field and managed to get in between four defenders and passed the goalkeeper as well. Paredes scored the opening goal in minute 65:00 of the game and his second goal this season for Rio Hondo, with Jefferson Cluggy-Soto getting the assist.
With the score now at 1-0, Rio Hondo began to dominate possession of the ball and continued to pressure their opponents defense by making runs down the line and forcing the opposition to chase them down. The exhaustion of the OCC players was obvious, and players began to get sloppy and commit unnecessary fouls in dangerous areas of the field.
As Rio Hondo continued to dominate, Kristopher Morgan secured the Roadrunner’s victory after scoring a well placed shot in the top-right hand corner of the net off of Hector Munoz assist in the 75th minute of the game.
The game ended 2-0 with Rio Hondo remaining undefeated in their last three games, and now hold an overall record of 2-1-2. Rio Hondo will host another home non-conference game on Sep. 13 against Irvine Valley College at 4 p.m.
