Rio Hondo Softball team drops doubleheader at Southwestern
The Rio Hondo Softball team finished up the last of its non-conference play against Southwestern College in a doubleheader on April 11 that would see them lose both games. The first game was a 9-0 loss to the Jaguars and the final game was slightly bettera 5-0 loss.
After these losses the Lady Roadrunners record fell to 12-22 overall.
Their game prior to this was a doubleheader against Chaffey College on April 8, but was rained out and postponed until April 15.
The Lady Roadrunners could not find any offense in the first game, as the Southwestern pitcher kept them in check throughout the whole game, only giving up one hit to Brittany Salcido.
Meanwhile on the defensive side, giving up multiple scores in the first, second and fourth inning things only became even more complicated for Rio, losing 9-0 in five innings as part of the mercy rule.
Hopeful that the game would change, Rio stayed the course in the second game but Southwestern would continue their dominant pitching and would only give up three hits to Elaine Verdugo, Julianna Fierro and Brenae Martinez.
While this game was more of a reasonable score, Southwestern still found a way to put up multiple runs in the third and in the sixth innings, finishing The game by a score of 5-0.
The pair of losses dropped Rio Hondo Pitcher Brenae Martinez to an 11-22 record overall pitching both games for 10 innings, giving up 12 earned runs and striking out four batters.
Although the losses dropped the Rio Hondo softball team to a 12-22 record, their conference record is still at 6-3, keeping their postseason hopes alive.
The Lady Roadrunners only have six games left against four teams as they look to bounce back in their next game, which is an away game against Victor Valley College on April 13 at 3 p.m.
