Rio Hondo Basketball Players Danna Robles and Leo Maidana Sign their Letters of Intent

Rio Hondo basketball players Danna Robles and Leo Maidana both spent Mar. 4 signing their letters of intent to continue their education and play basketball at four year colleges. Danna Robles signed to San Diego Christian College and Leo Maidana signed to Hope International University.

Danna Robles, originally from Claremont, will take her talents to San Diego Christian College in the fall. A small school only enrolling 494 students located in El Cajon, CA. It is an NAIA school in the Golden State Athletic Conference where Robles will face schools like Biola University and Vanguard College.

Robles had a very efficient and productive sophomore season at Rio averaging 13.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Robles tallied a 22 point game against San Bernardino Valley and multiple 21 point games throughout the season.

When asked what her recruitment looked like coming out of high school, Robles said she had looks from a couple colleges but ultimately decided to come to Rio which panned out to be a wise decision as she will now continue her basketball career at a competitive NAIA school.

As her run at Rio comes to an end, when asked what she will miss the most about RHC Robles said she will miss the bond that she created with her teammates.

Leo Maidana will continue his collegiate basketball career at Hope International University, a local school located in Fullerton across the street Cal State Fullerton. It is also an NAIA school in the Golden State Athletic Conference.

Maidana had a monster sophomore season leading the Roadrunners in scoring, averaging 16.2 points per game and was also second on the team in rebounding averaging 6 rebounds per contest.

Maidana, a humble and talented offensive player, said that he felt a lot of excitement but also nervousness as he will now enter a new stage of his basketball career.

When asked about his recruitment coming out of high school, Maidana said that he wasn’t recruited at all out of high school but two years later he would receive a phone call from coach Mike Lowe leading to his arrival to Rio.

Maidana also gave thanks to his teammates and the Rio coaching staff for his development during his productive season at Rio.

Now that basketball season has officially come to an end, it is nice to see the talent that has flourished at Rio be taken to the next level.
