Women’s Soccer Team Continue Fight to Defend Foothill Conference Title
The Rio Hondo women’s soccer team faced Victor Valley on Oct. 13 for yet another away game. Their current overall record is 9-1-2, which is a great position to be in at this stage of the season.
The Lady Roadrunners who just came off a big 8-0 win against West Lemoore, were ready once again to continue to show that they are a dominating force in the Foothill Conference.
It didn’t take long for Rio Hondo to take the lead as Erika Lizarraga, assisted by Janeth Acuna scored the opener. Next to get on the scoreboard was Andrea Sanchez who was also assisted by Acuna. Now it was Acuna’s turn to score as Erika Lizarraga returned the favor and assisted her on her goal. It was now 3-0 for the Lady Roadrunners as they looked to to get another win. Then Janeth Acuna managed to get one more goal in to seal the deal as Rio Hondo got another important away win.
This was yet another great result for the Lady Roadrunners. Goalkeeper Christina Holguin kept another clean sheet as she and her defense did an amazing job of keeping everything out of their goal.
The Lady Roadrunners then had to hit the road once again for yet another away game on Oct. 16. This time they faced San Bernardino Valley; a tough opponent who is also doing really well this season and have an overall record of 12-1-2.
Things started off really well for Rio Hondo as Genesis Patino who was assisted by Erika Lizarraga scored only a mere two minutes and twenty two seconds into the match. What more could you ask for?
Things continued to look good for our Lady Roadrunners as they made it to half time still leading San Bernardino Valley 1-0. It was definitely a close match up between the two sides, as they both wanted the win and the 3 points.
Unfortunately, as the second half began, San Bernardino Valley started to put pressure up top. Baylee Williams assisted by Leandra Garlinger tied it up for her side. Things were now starting to look more even, as San Bernardino Valley continued to put pressure up top.
Baylee Williams’ persistence payed off, unfortunately, as she netted her second goal and gave San Bernardino Valley the lead, 2-1 as the game was nearly coming to an end. Our Lady Roadrunners didn’t put their heads down though as they continued to fight for every ball and tackle on the field. Both sides continued to fight back and forth even into the last minutes of the game. San Bernardino Valley managed to get one more goal in, winning the match, 3-1.
Our Lady Roadrunners 8 game winning streak came to an end.
The Lady Roadrunners broke even today in a tie with Chaffey at Smith Park. Come support our Lady Roadrunners as they continue their fight to defend the Foothill Conference Title. The Lady Roadrunner’s will play an away game against College of the Desert on Oct. 23 at 2 p.m.
