Soccer players collide on field, leaving one student with stitches
Rio Hondo student Mayra Chulo suffered a head injury during soccer class on the field Monday morning. Chulo was hit on the head by a male soccer player after both ran for the ball. Chulo suffered an open wound and the other player walked without injuries.
“I got a cut and was bleeding a lot,” said Chulo. “It was a face to face hit.”
Campus security officers came to the field and took Chulo to the health office around 10 minutes after the accident. She said that she was in a lot of pain from her head following the hit, and was given pain medication by the health office officials.
Health officials bandaged her head to protect the open bloody wound from infection. Chulo assumed she would need stitches.
An hour after being treated in the Rio Hondo health office, Chulo was taken by her friend to the El Monte Comprehensive Health Center located on 10953 Ramona Avenue in the city of El Monte.
“They told me the wait would be like 3 hours,” said Chulo. “So they sent me to a different place.”
Chulo was sent to LAC+USC Medical Center in Los Angeles, where she received 3 stitches in a wound on her left eyebrow. “It was like 15 minutes,” said Chulo. “I didn’t feel pain.”
She said that she finally arrived home around 8 pm.
