Disneyland College Program Internship
Rio Hondo College hosted a Disneyland Internship Information Session Aug. 31 in room number SS305 at 1:30 p.m. The information session was led by Mauricio Cedillos, who is the Student Services Assistant at Rio Hondo College. The information session provided information on how to get into the Disney Internship Program, as well as where and how they can apply online for free.
Cedillos stated that this was the biggest group he has seen attend an information session since he started hosting them in the Fall of 2015, with upwards of 50 students showing up. To apply, one must be at least a part-time student at an accredited college or university, 18 years of age or older, have a valid social security number, as well as have to pay a few fees which may vary.
Students have the option to do their internship at either Disney World in Orlando, Florida or at Disneyland in Anaheim, California. Students also have the option to live on an off-site housing facility, or they can stay local and live at home or with relatives if possible. The application start date is August 2016 and the deadline is October 2016 for Spring 2017 internships from either January-May or January-August. Recruitment for Fall 2017 starts February-March.
The application can be found online at cp.disneycareers.com/en/default/ or by googling “Disney College Internship Program” and clicking on the link after the ad. There is a green button on the top right side of the page which reads, “Apply Now.” After clicking, an application will open up in a new window and that is where you will apply for the Disney College Program Internship.
For the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, interns would be on a weekly housing payment plan, which is $149.50 per week and it can either be an apartment or studio of one or two bedrooms with up to three participants per each room. This cost includes all utilities such as electricity, cable, waste disposal and local phone service.
Upon accepting invitation to the program, the student would be required to pay a grand total of $902.50 which covers the first four weeks of housing fees as well as a $100 Program Assessment Fee, a $200 Security Deposit, and a $598 Housing and Administration Fee.
At this resort education participation is a requirement for all those interning for the program, it is not optional. Interns would be enrolled in courses similar to those at a regular college, although course material and textbooks are far less expensive and can range between $10-$30 per course.
One cool thing about the program is that if you don’t want to live in their housing and prefer to commute to work while living at home or with relatives, you would only be required to pay the $100 or $150 Program Assessment Fee, depending on which resort you decide to intern at.
At Disney World in Orlando, Florida their Education Participation is not required and is completely optional. At Disney World the Weekly Housing Payment is slightly cheaper, and is $93-$124 depending on the size of the apartment and which apartment complex the participant is assigned to.
At Disney World Resort your fees upon accepting the program invitation are $350 and cover the Program Assessment Fee of $150 and the Housing and Administration Fee of $200.
For more information on the program you can email Cedillos at [email protected] or stop by the Career Center or Student Services where they will help you apply online and can even set up mock interviews for you to practice your interviewing skills.
