El Paisano editors are awarded scholarships
Two Rio Hondo Journalism students have been awarded a total of $500 in scholarships from the Greater Los Angeles Press Club.
LAPC representative Fernando Del Rio presented the students with their checks last week.
The two students are Editor-In-Chief and online and print News Editor Angela Hernandez and Opinion Editor Diego Crespo.
Hernandez has been with El Paisano for two years and has been the editor-in-chief for two semesters. She was awarded $300 by the Press Club.
Crespo has been a staff writer for El Paisano for two semesters and became the opinion editor this semester. He was awarded $200 by the Press Club.
“I’m very thankful to have received this award. I don’t consider myself talented in many outlets in life, but I’m honored to have my work recognized in this regard. I’m quite proud of my writing in general but I have to admit, it feels nice to have some recognition here with this.” Crespo said.
“Diego and Angela have worked very hard this year for El Paisano and the staff and they have been rewarded for their efforts with these scholarships. They richly deserve this recognition.” El Paisano adviser John Francis said.
The students, along with Francis, Del Rio, and Dean of Communications Robert Holcomb, took a quick photo opportunity and discussed plans, going forward.
“While I am honored to have been awarded such a great scholarship, the part I’m happiest about is that it was an experience I was able to share with both Diego and John,” Hernandez said.
