Black Friday used to be a one day event where shoppers can find the best deals on just about any product in-stores. Some of the products consist of mattresses, laptops, big screen TVs, clothing, kitchen appliances, and more. These products drop to an all-time low price and oftentimes are in limited quantities. Black Friday takes place the day after Thanksgiving every year . This year, Black Friday will fall on Friday, Nov. 26, 2022. In addition, most stores and businesses started their Black Friday Deals a month before the actual day. 

The History Behind Black Friday

According to History.com, in the 1950s, police in the City of Philadelphia used the term to describe the chaos of shoppers and tourists that flooded the shops during Black Friday. By 1961, the name “Black Friday” came to be, but merchants tried to change the name to “Big Friday” to remove a negative meaning. In the late 1980s, retailers reinvented the name “Black Friday” to reflect a backstory of how accountants used different color ink. If accountants used red ink, that would mean there was negative earnings, and if they used black ink, it was positive earnings. The different color ink indicated a company’s profitability. 

 Black Friday Deals 2022

Walmart’s Black Friday will kick off their sale on Monday, November 21. The deals go live at 12pm ET for Walmart+ members. Those same deals will then go live at 7pm ET November 21 for non-members. Their sale will include deep discounts on gaming consoles, toys, TVs and more. Well known brands being featured include LEGO, Nintendo, iRobot, Xbox, and Playstation. 

Target’s Black Friday sale will start off on Nov. 20 and ends on Nov. 26. Target’s 2022 Black Friday sale starts on Nov. 20 and ends on Nov. 26. During this time, shoppers can find deals on toys, TVs, home decor, small kitchen appliances and more – from top brands like KitchenAid, Apple, Samsung, Dyson and LEGO.

Best Buy’s Black Friday sale will run from Nov. 20 to Nov. 27. During this time, you can find deals on everything from headphones and TVs to appliances and gaming consoles – from top brands like Apple, Samsung, PlayStation and more. Best Buy stores will be closed for Thanksgiving Day, but open bright and early at 5 a.m. on Black Friday.

Kohl’s 2022 Black Friday sale runs from Nov. 20 to 25. During this time, Kohl’s shoppers will have a chance to earn $15 in Kohl’s Cash for every $50 spent on purchases made in-store and online. Products on sale include everything from toys and vacuums to apparel and small kitchen appliances.

JCPenney will be launching a new selection of Black Friday deals every week of November. You will find deals on everything from holiday pajamas for the family and party apparel to towels and sheets, small kitchen appliances, cookware, toys, tech gadgets and more. They will be closed Thanksgiving day but will be open starting at 5am on Black Friday. 

Macy’s Black Friday 2022 sale officially starts on Nov. 20 and runs through to Nov. 26 where they will be open from 6am to 11:59pm. During this sale, you can expect to find deals on apparel, home decor, small kitchen appliances and toys from top brands like UGG, Levi’s, KitchenAid, LEGO and more.
