Rice crispy turkey treats
With thanksgiving around the corner it’s time to start planning the dishes, the sides and the dessert.
With so much preparation and planning sometimes it’s better to go with a small easy to do treat. With the usual casseroles and pumpkin pies, we though a different take on a familiar treat would be fun.
We bring to you, Rice Crispy Turkey treats are easy to do and show the thanksgiving spirit.
Not only is it a festive treat but if you have young children, siblings or cousins this is one dish they are able to help with.
So to start off here is a list if ingredients you will need before you start the fun.
Ingredients:
- 6 ½ cups of Rice Crispy Cereal any brand
- 1 10- ounce package of marshmallows
- ¼ cup of butter or margarine
- 1 teaspoon of Vanilla
- 1 bag of Candy Corn
- 1 bag of reese’s pieces hard shell candy
- 1 bag of reese’s small/mini peanut butter cups
- Red icing or candy melts (these can be found at Walmart or Michaels in the baking section).
- 1 bag of small edible googly eyes (these can also be found at Walmart or Michaels in the baking section).
At this time you will want to be sure to put on your aprons so your clothes do not get dirty.
Recipe:
- Melt ¼ of butter or margarine and 10 oz of marshmallows in a saucepan over low heat and stir occasionally until completely melted. If you have young children helping you be sure to have them sit this step out, the marshmallow sauce gets very hot.
- Add one teaspoon of Vanilla and mix thoroughly with the melted marshmallows.
- In a separate bowl mix the 6 ½ of cereal and marshmallow mixture until all of the cereal is completely covered. A neat trick is to spray your plastic spoon or spatula with non-stick canola oil spray so the mixture won’t stick.
- Spray a 13×9 inch pan spread the cereal mixture evenly and let sit for 30-45 minutes or until completely cool.
- With a round cookie cutter (size can vary) cut out as many rice crispy cookie as you can.
- Using the icing or candy melts as glue place the small reeses cup on the rice crispy cookie.
- Place about five candy corn candy on top of the small reese’s cup.
- Place the reese’s pieces as the beak.
- For the last step, place the googly eyes with the red icing or candy melts.
Voila! You now have cute Rice Crispy Turkey Treats.
Not only are they a great holiday theme but it is a treat that the whole family can be involved in.
