“Midnights”: Taylor Swift’s Return to Pop
Taylor Swift’s tenth studio album, “Midnights,” is here after its reveal during the 2022 MTV Music Awards. Prior to the release of “Midnights,” a teaser was shown by Amazon during a Thursday night NFL game. The teaser began with Swift discussing the album, and followed up with a clip of a music video.
The Album
“Midnights” is a concept album, with each song having different possible meanings for the listener to interpret. After listening to the album on repeat, “Midnights” seems to be a mix of highs and lows of Swift’s life. Repeated listening and reading each song’s lyrics helped paint this picture of the possible meaning of “Midnights.” This is what I firmly believe, but listeners can believe the album has an entirely different meaning.
The Music
“Midnights” has a total listen time of 44 minutes and eight seconds. Composed of 13 tracks, “Midnights” is sure to have one song that listeners will have playing on repeat. Some songs that I enjoyed listening to include “Anti-Hero,” “Maroon,” “Lavender Haze,” and “Bejeweled.” Even though these are only four songs I mentioned, I encourage listeners to make their own list of favorites.
Final Review
After two years of waiting, Swift’s return to pop with “Midnights” did not disappoint. In her two year absence, Swift re-recorded her albums “Red” and “Fearless,” and titled each “Taylor’s Version.” “Midnights” is worth listening to, as most songs have a catchy beat. Play “Midnights” for yourself, and create your own thoughts on Swift’s latest album.
