East Whittier Middle School Celebrates 10th Annual Harvest Festival
House of Horror
East Whittier Middle School kicked off the 10th annual House of Horrors at East Whittier Middle School on Friday, September 27. This year’s House of Horrors was “Carnival of Fear” and had insane clowns, costumed serial killers, and creepy monsters lurking throughout the event. The harvest festival’s main attraction was the House of Horrors. It is run by 200 community members , volunteers, staff and the music program. On the outskirts of the maze, you can find yourself surrounded by a live band, local vendors, wacky carnival games, and the aroma of the carnival food.
The annual festival had lines that stretched out to blocks from the school. Filled with families anxious to get inside the event. “All three nights we usually have a total of about 1,600 people go through the haunted house and we’re hoping to break that” ,said the Vice President of the music foundation Kassie Stys.
“The harvest festival is entirely ran by the Whittier community, volunteers and the music program,” said Stys. “The house of horrors is a great way to get the community to come together.”
“It really is homecoming. This is my family , it is our community. It’s nice to see all of our students, parents, faculty, and neighbors use this as a creative outlet,” said Instrumental Music Director Deborah Carnahan. “Also, just seeing all of the families coming together makes me want to keep going another decade with all of them.”
The house of horrors at East Whittier Middle school will be open from September 27 – September 30. There is a $2 cover charge and $6 for the horror maze.
