Game of Thrones Episode 3 Recap What Do We Say To The God of Death?
Episode 3 “The Long Night” lives up to its name as the episode is the longest episode to date and packed with all sorts of emotion. Because of the length, I will be cutting the intro short but just know that this episode is a spectacle in itself. With that out the way, let’s get into the episode and remember SPOILERS AHEAD.
Charging into Death
We begin with shots of our heroes army staring at the fog of night waiting for the Night King. While staring Melisandre comes back as she promised and with presents as well. She begins to light the armies swords on fire before they charge into the night. We then get this amazing shot of hundreds of fires getting sucked into darkness until we see none. After we get our first taste of how strong the white walkers are. Seeing them run so fast that they are climbing over each other just to get to Bran. Shot by shot all of our main characters are seen struggling against the threat in all the fog and fire.
Drama turned Horror
As the white walkers begin to invade the castle we start to follow Arya. This shifts the episode to a horror movie where we see her traumatized by the sheer number of walkers. While she has to quietly sneak pas them in a very eerie scene. We then go to the crypt where Tyrion and Sansa with the rest of the town. As they wait walkers begin to break out of the walls and start attacking the innocent. As others are killed and our main characters are forced to hide we truly are given a sense of danger.
Horror turned Action
After a quick dragon fight with the night king, Jon shows concern for bran and has to leave Daenerys to find Bran. With the Night King having raised the dead again Jon runs into Hordes of walkers as he sees all of his friends backs to the wall fighting for their life. As Jon moves on bodies are dropping from the skies and as he gets closer to bran he becomes face to face with the Night King’s dragon. Meanwhile, in the Godswood Theon is doing his best to defend bran and takes down every walker that comes near him. Until the Night King shows up ready to take Bran and Theon’s life with him in a heartbreaking scene. As time slows down with the Night King getting closer to Bran Arya comes out of nowhere and stabs the King killing all the Walkers and winning the fight.
Deaths and What’s Next?
With this very long episode came many losses including thousands of Dothraki, Unsullied, Westerosi knights, Edd Tollet, Lyanna Mormont, Beric Dondarrion, Jorah Moramont, Theon Geryjoy, and Melisandre of Asshai. All these deaths came with amazing scenes that though felt sad, were a great send off for who they were. But with Cersei still on the throne and many worthy of throne still alive its hard to still say who will end up sitting there at the end.
