Marvel reveals ‘Fresh Start’
Marvel entertainment released a video teasing fans about ‘Fresh Start’ for the superhero comic line. A new creative team will be brought and the classics will return. This is Marvels relaunch.
“I can say, walking through these halls, I’ve never seen more enthusiasm and excitement for where Marvel comics is going this year. New series, new creative teams, new directions, and new beginnings. Not since Marvel NOW have we had such an over-arching, line-wide change of talent on the Marvel comic line,” said editor in chief C.B. Cebilski in the promo video.
Marvel has been working on this launch for a while now. Before this launch, Marvel launched ‘Marvel Legacy’ and it didn’t work out so well. The titles were renumbered and they were pushing too much in a nostalgic direction. Sales kept dropping for Marvel when this launched. This new launch, Fresh Start, is going to consist of the old characters going back to the classics. In the promotional picture, Thor is shown in his original costume. The picture also shows new characters like Ms. Avenger and Robbie Reyes incarnation of Ghost Rider. Marvel also plans to focus on Ant man and Wasp man with this relaunch and blending in their stories with everyone’s story. ‘Fresh Start’ won’t have any mystery characters or any redesigns. The confusing numbering will also be gone. The comic books will have a following pattern unlike Black Panther that was released in September 2017. The comic book Black Panther went from #18 and followed by Black Panther #166. The main focus is to get back to the classic Marvel.
To kick off the launch of ‘Fresh Start’ the first relaunch will be Avengers. With so many different titles of Avengers, they will all be combined into one book. The poster for the first relaunch was also released. In the promotional video the “big three”, Ironman, Captain America, and Thor, is front and center. Other characters like Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Robbie Reyes as Ghost Rider and Jennifer Walters as Hulk. Doctor strange will also be in the book but he will be rotated in and out. The Avengers #1 will be released in May 2018 and the other relaunches will follow.
