Blackwater Comic Review
The internet has become a platform for many upcoming artists, to not only showcase their talents but also their creations. There a lot of good webcomics out there, but Blackwater is what currently caught my eye.
The story centers around two boys, with conflicting personalities, Eli Hirsch and Tony Price and their journey as they deal with the usual high school problems, werewolf curses, and typical supernatural happenings in their town of Blackwater, Maine.
The atmosphere of the comic is definitely spooky and it shines through just lovely in this comic, with the art style presenting the concept of a town with a hidden dark side in an interesting yet natural way.
The comic, created isn’t that far along, right now it’s at around 20 pages, yet it does make readers want to know what’s going to happen and what has happened. While some plot points can be guessed, the comic still leaves you with a sense of mystery on certain things, primarily Eli.
Eli appears to be the focus point currently for the comics or at least his storyline is. He seems to be the one with the most secrets and our other leading man, Tony, takes a strong interest in him as well.
Their relationship is one of the most intriguing parts of the story and the creators know how to leave readers needing to know more.
Also, the characters’ designs tend to conflict with certain stereotypes we see associated with them; Tony, who is introduced wearing a leather jacket, is actually a track star and while he does have some bad boy tendencies he seems to be a well-liked guy. It’s clever and done really well.
This story overall has its hold on me with its mystery and characters. If you have a chance check it out Blackwater on their Tumblr under the name Blackwater comic and if you want to help support the comic and it’s creators there is also a link to their Patreon on the site.
