SZA’s Debut Album ‘CTRL’ Goes Gold
CTRL sells 500 thousand records. Making this SZA’s best year yet!
SZA just hit a huge milestone in her career for her debut album. CTRL released back in June to rave reviews was just certified gold by the RIAA. SZA posted multiple photos on her Instagram celebrating this achievement. The ‘Love Galore’ singer also received a platinum plaque for her second single featuring rapper Travis Scott.
SZA thanked her two million followers saying,
“thank each of you for connecting with this album and making me feel less lonely.. less inadequate.”
To be certified by the RIAA is a huge accomplishment. RIAA says these certifications are ‘earned by artists who have met rigorous standards, and recipients join the ranks of the most iconic recording artists.’
Gold certifications dignify a record selling 500,000 units including digital and physical copies. While platinum certifications are for records that sell double gold certifications. Amassing a million units digitally or physically.
SZA who is signed to TDE, Top Dog Entertainment, is having a huge 2017. Fresh off the heels of a feature on critically acclaimed album ANTI by Rihanna last year. Labelmate Kendrick Lamar is featured on the album as well as Isaiah Rashad. With the backing of Rihanna and Kendrick Lamar, it is not a shock to see SZA’s success rise.
SZA is furthering her success with two new songs out now. Maroon 5 helmed “What Lovers Do” and Lorde remix “Homemade Dynamite” which also features newcomer Khalid and Post Malone.
In even more celebration, SZA was Spotify’s #1 most streamed female artist and Love Galore just reached 100 million streams on the streaming service app.
What’s next for SZA? Grammy predictors say she’ll be greatly rewarded when it comes to nominations. Including noms for the coveted Best New Artist award and Best Urban Contemporary Album won by Beyonce’s Lemonade last year.
SZA’s star is only rising and we should all watch to see how high she’ll go.
