The month of August masquerades as a grand finale of sorts for summer music-lovers and festival attendees, and the Monterey First City Festival promises a picturesque ending to any festival season with music and carnival against a beautiful ocean backdrop.
Named after Monterey’s claim as the official “first capital” of California, First City Festival boasts an aesthetically pleasing lineup that features such veteran indie loves as the electrical duo MGMT, Passion Pit, and Modest Mouse. As well as Beach House, Purity Ring, Capital Cities, and the one-man Toro y Moi, each of which are quickly gaining credit as both skilled performers and indie music makers.
The festival itself will feature over thirty bands to choose from, performing on three live music stages in addition to a Vaudeville variety stage. Between sets, guests can make full use of the carnival, complete with an array of rides and games, as well as local craft beers, wine, and delicious food vendors.
Stay close to the action with the option of off-site camping, as well as numerous hotels and hostels designed to keep you near the music.
Join Monterey in celebrating its colorful and proud history as California’s most beloved vacation destination, enjoy nearby attractions as the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Fisherman’s Wharf before or after the festival.
The First City Festival guarantees a weekend filled with the good vibes, irreplaceable memories, and goose-bump inducing performances guests could ever hope for, without the hassle of the infamous summer heat and desert winds associated with other festivals.
Experience your favorite bands and discover new ones in the very cradle of musical history on the west coast, at a place where festivals were born, in California’s own “music capitol”.
The First City Music Festival will be held between August 24-25. Tickets are available: two day admission is $149/$279 for general admission and VIP respectively; single day admission for either Saturday or Sunday is $85. After party tickets, bus passes, and carnival ride passes are also available for sale.
