Alex Trebek Passes Away at 80

Host of the popular game show “Jeopardy!”, Alex Trebek, passes away from pancreatic cancer.

One of America’s favorite and well-known game show hosts, Alex Trebek, passed away on Nov. 8. Trebek was the host of “Jeopardy!” for 37 years and has been a household name for television game shows ever since. Last year, he announced that he was diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer. Despite the seriousness of the situation, he turned it into a little joke saying, “under the terms of my contract I have to host for three more years.” Trebek was determined to fight and beat the low survival rates of pancreatic cancer. Although it did not turn out the way we had hoped and prayed for, Alex Trebek will go down in television history as one of the greatest hosts for game shows. Alex Trebek was originally born in Canada in the Ontario region. He graduated from the University of Ottawa with a degree in philosophy and later worked for CBC working on many news stories. In 1973, Trebek took the next step into television as host of the NBC show “Wizard of Odds”. Trebek had been the host of multiple game shows, until he made stake in “Jeopardy!” in 1984.
