The Keto Diet has Been Put on the Map

The Keto diet is the latest craze going around with low carb and high-fat focus.

Celebrities such as Halle Berry, Megan Fox, and Vanesa Hudgens are just a few of the names that have promoted using it.

There are four Keto diet choices, the most popular ones being the Standard and High Protein.

Standard Keto is good for beginners. High Protein is popular with those that want to add more protein to their diet.

Cyclical Keto includes the Standard method but also has high carbs as well. It is a good use for high-intensity workouts or bodybuilding.

Targeted Keto includes the Standard and Cyclical methods. The carb intake is prior to workouts. It’s preferable for the active individuals that upkeep with their exercise routines.

While Keto may be the most current promoted diet, having lower amounts of carbs as an eating lifestyle is nothing new.

“Dr. Atkins Diet Revolultion” book about health and low carbs was published back in the seventies and many others have come up and trended since then.

The myth that carbs are bad and should be avoided at all costs isn’t quite true or healthy. The good carbohydrates are more nutritious than junk foods or less healthy choices.

Marcelo Campos is a medical doctor at Harvard Vanguard. He also has credentials as a lecturer and as a clinical assistant professor. He explains what Ketosis is and what it does.

“In the absence of circulating blood sugar from food, we start breaking down stored fat into molecules called ketone bodies (the process is called ketosis). Once you reach ketosis, most cells will use ketone bodies to generate energy until we start eating carbohydrates again.”

Campos also commented on the long-term outcome for the diet lifestyle, he states: “A ketogenic diet could be an interesting alternative to treat certain conditions, and may accelerate weight loss. But it is hard to follow and it can be heavy on red meat and other fatty, processed, and salty foods that are notoriously unhealthy.”
