Three Shootings Occur Back to Back in One Week

Last week, multiple shootings have been taking place in neighboring cities. From San Gabriel to Hacienda Heights, three shootings and deaths occurred and are under investigation.

Hacienda Heights Shooting

Thursday May 20, Los Angeles deputies got a call at 1am of nearby gunshots around Hacienda Heights. Arriving at the scene, an unidentified man and woman in their 20s are found with severe gun wounds. The victims were sitting in a gray car on the side of the road where they were both shot. According to Lt. Robert Westphal of Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department, the relationship between the gunman and victims remains unknown.

Westphal states both victims were injecting nitrous oxide inside the car. Westphal says, “It is common to get reports of gunshots or possible cars backfiring in the area.” He adds, “It’s also popular with people street racing and nitrous oxide consumption.” The shooter is identified as a male driving a gray sedan. It is likely that the two victims were approached and confronted by an individual which the shooting occurred. While the male victim pronounces dead at the scene, while the female is taken to the hospital in critical condition. No further information has been released.

Woman Shot at Home in Alhambra

On May 17, police responded to a shooting on South Benito Avenue in Alhambra at around 9:45pm. A caller reported a 30-year-old woman being shot at her own house. An unidentified man knocked onto the resident’s house asking for her name. Facing the shooter at her door, she was shot multiple times at her doorstep, while the gunman fled on foot.

Police officers are currently investigating any relationship between the gunman and victim. The shooter is described as a 20–30-year-old heavy set Hispanic man, who is about six foot, three inches tall. He was last seen wearing a black sweater, blue jeans and armed with a semi-automatic handgun. The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition that night and proceeds into stable conditions the following day. While the investigation is still ongoing, no further details have been released.

One Man Shot and Killed in San Gabriel

The following day, a shooting on May 18, Tuesday evening, found one man dead in San Gabriel. The city police received a report of a shooting on West Norwood Place. San Gabriel police Lt. Kott mentions that once authorities arrived on scene, they found a man in his 20s lying on the street with at least one gunshot wound.

Paramedics transported the victim to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Referring to witness statements, Lt. Kott describes two individuals walking up to the victim, while one shot at him and the other fled the scene. While Los Angeles County Homicide Detectives investigate the shooting, no further information has been provided.
