“AMLO” New Elected Mexican President

“No los voy a defraudar”

Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador is the new elected Mexican president. This was the third time that AMLO ran for Mexican presidency, he had run back for the first and second time with PRD party in 2006 against former president Felipe Calderon and in 2012 against the current president Enrique Pena Nieto.

This time AMLO ran as part of Morena (a party he created less than six years ago) that formed a coalition encompassing the National Regeneration Movement, Social Encounter Party, and the Labor Party. Morena won the elections with an outstanding 53% of the popular vote in all of Mexico, leaving PAN and their coalition behind with 22% and PRI with 16% of the votes.

AMLO gave his victory speech at El Zocalo de Mexico. “I don’t want to be remembered as a bad president, I know many of them, I want to be remembered as a good president of Mexico” expressed Obrador. During his speech he also promised to help the elderly and discapacitated with full pension, and most importantly he guaranteed all young adults with an education and job opportunities. History was made in Mexico as this is the first time that another party other than PRI or PAN has won the presidency. AMLO is a leftist but this seems to be a step in the right direction for Mexico with a lot of propositions such as national security from the drug cartels.
