Cavaliers’ Head Coach Steps Down
Cleveland Cavalier’s head coach Tyronn Lue is stepping down as head coach temporarily due to health issues. He has been placed on a week plan to see if his health issue improve.
Lue has been dealing with chest pain and “other” troubling symptoms. He has gone to the doctor and gone through many tests but no exact diagnose has been pinpointed. Lue has missed part or all of three games because of his health issues. On Saturday, he missed the win over the Chicago Bulls.
“After many conversations with our doctors and Koby and much thought given to what is best for the team and my health, I need to step back from coaching and focus on trying to establish a stronger and healthier foundation from which to coach for the rest of the season. While I have tried to work through it, the last thing I want it for it to affect the team. I am going to use this time to focus on a prescribed routine and medication, which has previously been difficult to start in the midst of a season. My goal is to come out of it a stronger and healthier version of myself so I can continue to lead this team to the championship we are all working towards,” said Lue
Lebron James said Lue’s step down is well overdue.
“I mean he’s the captain of the ship, so absolutely. We worry about his health obviously. That;s way more important than this game of basketball. We know he’s been doing everything he needs to do to stay healthy. Maybe he should take even more measures to get himself right. Everything that’s been going on with out year, it’s just another year,” said James.
Lue has been struggling with decision to step down because he didn’t want to leave his team with the year that they were having. He was struggling with this decision since early November and December when the Cav’s won 18 and 19. He was especially resistant to stepping down in January because the team was struggling.
Assistant coach Larry Drew will take over until Lue is ready to return. As of now no one knows will Lue will return. With the Cavalier’s being 3rd in the eastern conference this is just another hit on the season.
