Mother Sent to Jail for Refusing to Vaccinate Her Child

A Michigan judge sentence mother, Rebecca Bredow, to seven days in jail after failing to follow a court order to vaccinate her nine-year-old son.

While parents in Michigan are allowed to delay or skip their kids’ vaccination due to personal the mother of two was taken to court by her ex-husband last week over refusing to vaccinate their son despite agreeing to do it in November 2016.

The father now has temporary custody of the boy to get him vaccinated. Bredow, from the Detroit suburb of Ferndale, was sentenced October 4 for contempt of court for failing to vaccinate her kid.

When their child was born the parents agreed to space out their son’s shots, after their separation in 2008 they shared parental custody and the father still wanted their son vaccinated according to ABC News.

Despite Bredow having sole custody, Oakland County Court Judge Karen McDonald said, “Dad gets a say,” according to BBC News.

“I am an educated vaccine-choice mother,” Bredow said in court and later argued vaccinating her kid “goes against my beliefs”. “I would rather sit behind bars standing up for what I believe in than giving in to something I strongly don’t believe in,” added Bredow.
