What is Amber Rose’s Slut Walk For?
Celebrity Amber Rose held her second annual SlutWalk Sunday, October 1st at 11: oo A.M. in Downtown Los Angeles, Pershing Square, with over 15,000 registered participants.
But what exactly is the “SlutWalk” and what is it for?
The Amber Rose SlutWalk is an event started to “take the power away from derogatory labels” as the official website says.
It is a walk that is aimed to bring awareness to but not limited to: rape culture, gender inequality, sexual violence, and victim blaming.
The event also accepts donation which will go to on-site services HIV testing, food vendors, merchandise vendors, sexual awareness booths, and more.
The official SlutWalk website is even complete with rules for the event that support the main reasons for the event:
“DON’T THREATEN OR ABUSE:Â Threatening harm, injury, or violence of any kind toward another person will not be tolerated.
BE RESPECTFUL, BE NICE:Â No racism, sexism, or abusive language that is degrading to another person or group.”
If these rules and others that are listed on the website are broken, the offenders are escorted off the premises.
Amber Rose is known for her strong stance against the degradation of women, especially because she used to be an exotic dancer.
I believe this SlutWalk was a great way for her to use her own power and frustrations with societal circumstances and channel it into something worthwhile.
I hope it happens annually for a long time.
