UCL Semi-Final: Derby della Madonnina

Inter Milan came into this second leg up 2-0 in the aggregate. AC Milan will look to make a comeback and go to the champions league final. Both games are being hosted at the historic San Siro in Milan as the stadium will be torn down at the end of the season to build a new stadium for both Milan teams. Rafael Leao returns to Milan’s starting 11. 

First Half

Milan begin their attack right away early in the first half. Inter positioned themselves well to defend their lead. Milan with some dangerous attacks on the wing with dangerous crosses landing inside the area.  The Rossoneri get a shot on target with a great save from Inters goalkeeper Andre Onana. The black and red needing to do to keep applying the pressure to cut the lead. Inter with an opportunistic chance to increase their lead but was ruled offside. Both Inter and Milan trading attacks having their chances to score. Leao nearly cuts the lead but the goes just wide.

With a free kick from Inter Eden Dzeko headers the ball but Milan’s goalie Mike Magnan stops the ball with an incredible save. Milan trying to stay alive in the game. On the 42nd minute Inter makes a substitution with Henrikh Mkhitaryan being replaced by Marcelo Brozovic. The first half ended 0-0 with the aggregate still being 2-0 in favor of Inter Milan. 

 

Second Half

Milan visibly frustrated as nothing has gone their way in attack. Inter have managed to set their midfield to retrieve and control the attack. While Milan have no sense of play style to propose any sort of attack up front. Inter’s defense have lined themselves up well in the back without allowing any danger from their Striker Olivier Giroud and Leao. Goal in the 73rd minute by Inter’s striker and captain Lautaro Martinez. Inter were the better side to make the score 1-0 and the aggregate being 3-0 in favor of Inter. Milan went down without much of a fight as they were not much of a threat in attack. Inter’s defense was good, keeping a clean sheet both games.

Inter wins the semi final 3-0 in aggregate score and will head to Istanbul for the UEFA Champions League final for the first time since 2010 where they were crowned champions of Europe last time. Inter will face either Real Madrid or Manchester City who will play their second leg on Wednesday, May 17.
