Roadrunners celebrate after Dylan Schumacher hit a home run in the fifth inning.

The Roadrunners beat San Bernardino Valley 9-3 in front of the home crowd Thursday.

The Dirty Birds came into the game hungry after a tough loss to the San Bernardino Valley Wolverines, 6-5, on Wednesday.

Starting pitcher Bryan Garcia started the game off strong, punching out the first batter of the game. He allowed two earned runs through his four and two-thirds innings.

The Roadrunners’ offense was on point. With Rio Hondo loading the bases in the first, it allowed Diego Flores to draw a walk, scoring the first run of the game. Then, Aaron Gutierrez hit a hard line drive to center, scoring another run in the second.

Hitting was the focus of the game resulting in Joshua Perez going four for three, crossing the plate twice, and Diego Flores scoring two runs.

The Wolverines eventually put up two runs, making it a 5-2 ball game going into the bottom of the fifth, where Sophomore Dylan Schumacher answered back with a blast making it a 6-2 ballgame. The Wolverines fought back eventually putting another run on the board in the sixth inning.

Sophomore David Medrano took the mound to start the eighth inning, getting the first batter to fly out and taking the bat out of the hands of the last two batters with strikeouts. The Roadrunners broke it open with base hits. The Wolverines then rolled over, allowing the Roadrunners to score three more runs making it a 9-3 ballgame.

David Medrano finished the game by getting the batters to go down looking, ground out, and finally pop out to end the game. Therefore, Rio Hondo took home the win against San Bernardino Valley College.
