Fc Barcelona Crisis

Fc Barcelona Downfall

It is no surprise to say that Fc Barcelona has not been the same after their Champions League win in 2015. With many of their star players leaving the club, Barcelona has been in their biggest crisis in years.

Fc Barcelona has for the last 20 years been seen as a juggernaut in world football. However, nowadays Barcelona does not bring that fear into opponents anymore. Legends of the game such as Maradona, Cruyff, Ronaldo, and of course Lionel Messi have all worn the red and blue stripes of the Blaugrana.

Barcelona Hierarchy

2020 was an extremely difficult year for Barcelona. Former President, Josep Bartomeu, was run out of the club after being involved in multiple scandals all over the club. Bartomeu’s biggest scandal was of course with Lionel Messi and his contract situation. This saw Josep Bartomeu replaced with former Barcelona President Joan Laporta. Joan Laporta was the president of Fc Barcelona in their glory days back in the year 2000. Naturally, the re-election of Laporta brought a lot of hope into the Blaugrana faithful. However, a year into Laporta’s re-election and things around Catalunya are not getting any better.

Barcelona Style of Play

After Luis Enrique left the club back in 2016, there has not been a manager since to bring the same success that Luis Enrique brought. Ernesto Valverde was the first manager after Enrique. Although Valverde brought La Liga Titles to Barcelona, many fans were not happy with the signings and the way that Valverde’s Barcelona were playing. Johan Cruyff and Pep Guardiola brought and mastered the pass and go style of football, most notably known as Tiki Taka. However, Ernesto Valverde was not a Tiki Taka style coach. The way that Valverde styled his play was very direct, with most of his game being played with direct balls up the pitch.

Once Valverde left the club, fans were once again optimistic with the signing of Quique Setien who was very much a Tiki Taka style manager. However, it only took Setien 30 games before he was sacked. An 8-2 defeat against Bayern Munich in the Champions League was enough for Setien to lose his job.

Barcelona Rebuild

The Financial Crisis saw huge players like Antoine Griezman, Luis Suarez and of course Lionel Messi leave the club. Unable to sign any big players also due to their financial status. And of course bad results in Champions League and La Liga, nothing seems to be going well for Fc Barcelona.
