Recap

The last 3 games on USC’s schedule have been sort of a revenge tour for them. All three teams they face were able to beat the Trojans last year which also helped keep them from bowl eligibility. So far they won the first two over ASU and Cal. Now the Trojans are looking forward to their annual Crosstown Showdown with UCLA. The race for the Pac 12 South can be decided from that game if Utah were to lose any of their final two games. Nonetheless it was still important for USC to have such a statement victory over Cal this past Saturday. Whenever a team is able to win 41-17 it boosts the morale of everybody on the roster. This should give them enough motivation to come out hot and stay consistent over the Bruins.

Consistent Dominance

The theme all year for this Trojans team has been a great lack of consistency. For most of their games they tend to have a fast start. They usually make it look as if they are truly the better team within the first ten minutes of the game. Then as their opponents start to figure them out, they start to slow down greatly. One example can be from their win over Arizona State 2 weeks ago. The Trojans has 28 points in the first quarter alone in that game. Then the Sun Devils caught on and only allowed a field goal for the rest of the game. Saturday’s win against Cal was a whole different story. USC was not only able to put up points throughout the game, but their defense played stout throughout as well. Before Clay Helton took his starters out during garbage time, the defense had only allowed 10 points on the night.

Next Game

USC will end the year against their biggest rivals the UCLA Bruins. With a little help from Utah, this game can not only crown a team with pride, but with a championship as well. The game will be aired this Saturday on ABC at 12:30 PST.
