Nationals Win First World Series Title in Franchise History

Washington secured four wins in Houston for the 2019 World Series title

With a 6-2 win, the Washington Nationals overcame the Houston Astros. In a series ending game 7, the Nationals took their first World Series title at Minute Maid Park. The visiting team won all seven games in a series during the 2019 Fall Classic for the first time in MLB postseason history.

Up until the seventh inning, the Astros kept a 2-0 lead. But the determined Nationals, who notable had trailed in all five elimination games they faced this season, gained three runs in the seventh. Anthony Rendon and Howie Kendrick lead on homers, who without a doubt came clutch in a nail biting game.

Zack Greinke, starting Game 7 pitcher for the Astros, gave up one-our solo homer to Rendon in the seventh. Which was only the second hit that Greinke had conceded. After an intention walk to Juan Soto, that was the end of the night for Greinke.  Reliever Will Harris was called upon, who Kendrick had taken his deep off the foul pole in right field. The nationals gained more insurance runs in the eighth and ninth.

Skepticism was spiraling around the thought of Scherzer’s status. Just three days ago, he had severe spasm in his right trapezes muscle that made him almost immobile. Washington had written off Scherzer  as their game 5 starter. This was a shocker to all, because this was a man who is historically known to push through such ailments. Though hope was still in the air for a Game 7 start, he flew in first class with a neck brace. On Tuesday afternoon, he played catch in left field. Thankfully his team forced a seventh game.

All in all, this team refused to quit.  They may have been the oldest team in baseball. Whom of which averaging 31.7 years of age, but they jumped around on the field at Minute Maid park. In celebration of a long awaited title they sure were looking young at heart.
