UFC Fight Night Goes to Rochester

Rafael Dos Anjos and Kevin Lee will meet in the main event of UFC Fight Night Rochester this Saturday live from the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, New York. While both fighters are well established lightweights, the bout on Saturday night will take place in the welterweight division. With both men struggling to make 155, they look to prove that 170 pounds is their rightful home. The fights will be available only on ESPN+ with the prelims starting at 2 p.m. PST, following the main card at 5 p.m. PST.

Dos Anjos is coming off a two fight losing streak and has won three of his last five. The former lightweight champion is notorious for struggling against pressure fighters. His last two losses were both at the hands of pressure wrestlers who push a fast pace in Colby Covington and current welterweight champ Kamaru Usman. In the lead up to the fight, Dos Anjos had expressed desire in getting a win by submission on Saturday. With another pressure wrestler on his hands in Lee, there may be a chance he can make it happen.

This will be Kevin Lee’s first bout in the welterweight division. The former lightweight contender had struggled to make 155 pounds throughout his career. The new division should allow Lee to display his technique a lot better since he does not have to worry about a weight cut. Ariel Helwani of ESPN reported that Lee only had to cut one pound of weight on Friday morning as opposed to 12 pounds.

Kevin Lee is coming off a lost in his last bout but has won six of his last eight. Lee made it as far as a interim lightweight title shot against Tony Ferguson in which he lost by third round submission. The wrestling enthusiast has a lot to prove this weekend as he takes on one of the division’s best.

Look for the fight to be fast paced with a lot of wrestling and submission attempts.

Also on the card, Megan Anderson takes on undefeated prospect Felicia Spencer in a featherweight bout. Vicente Luque who is on a four-fight stoppage win streak takes on Derrick Krantz, who is filling in for Neil Magny after he was forced to withdraw from the fight, Finally, submission master Charles Oliveira takes on Nik Lentz in a lightweight bout.
